A cross-border e-commerce pilot zone in Shenzhen was recently selected by the Ministry of Commerce into the highest echelon in terms of comprehensive construction progress, said the city’s commerce bureau.

The Commerce Ministry released its first assessment report for the construction of 105 cross-border e-commerce pilot zones across the country, and 10 ranked in the first bracket.

The report aims to guide pilot zones to play a demonstration and leading role in promoting the sustainable and innovative development of the cross-border e-commerce sector.

The evaluation encompasses over 40 indicators, including the implementation of the comprehensive pilot area plan, establishment of work systems, implementation of facilitation policies, annual imports and exports, growth of annual exports, building of overseas locations and industrial campuses.

An official from the bureau said that Shenzhen’s pilot zone boasts a sound infrastructure for cross-border e-commerce development. It has the country’s most cross-border e-commerce entities, and similarly, it leads the country in the number of top-notch enterprises and customs clearance facilitation levels.

Over the recent years, Shenzhen’s pilot zone has been improving its support policies, promoting system and regulation innovations, and optimizing the customs clearance environment.

As of now, the all-format cross-border e-commerce businesses have been implemented in Shenzhen’s pilot zone. There are eight venues under customs supervision and bonded areas engaged in cross-border e-commerce business.
