Construction work began on the Lego theme park of Legoland Shenzhen Resort in Dapeng New Area on Tuesday, DT News reported.

The project will be spread over 267,000 square meters, which will include a theme park, a water park, a discovery park, short-trip scenic spots and visitor centers in Nan’ao in the middle of the new area.

As the largest Legoland resort in the world, it will bring unique learning-through-play experiences to 2- to 12-year-old children and their families by designing and building nine theme zones, over 100 recreation facilities, theaters and attractions.

The resort operated by the U.K.’s Merlin Entertainments PLC, the world’s second-largest tourist attraction operator, is expected to help Dapeng build itself into a world-class coastal ecological resort and promote tourism development in Shenzhen.

Dapeng introduced the resort project in early 2021 and later kickstarted the construction of its hotels.

The total investment for the project is expected to be around 4.7 billion yuan (US$725.6 million), according to previous news.

In addition to the Lego theme park project, seven more projects were launched Tuesday. They include resettlement houses for demolition and relocation in Nan’ao, a nine-year compulsory education school in Dapeng, and Pingxi Road auxiliary road, a two-lane one-way road spanning 1.5 kilometers from Pengjuan Road to Second Binhai Road, among others.

For these eight projects in Dapeng, investment is estimated at over 6.1 billion yuan.
