BYD NEV sales hit 134,036 in June

Shenzhen-based carmaker BYD sold 134,036 units of new energy vehicles (NEVs) globally in June, achieving a 162.7% growth year on year, with monthly sales of new energy passenger vehicles reaching 133,762 units, sources from BYD said.

BYD also delivered that its total sales exceeded 640,000 units in the first half of 2022, surpassing Tesla to rank first in global NEV sales, CarNewsChina.com reported.

Boosted by its exclusive technologies such as the Blade Battery and DM-i Super Hybrid, BYD is a dominant player in China’s NEV segment.

Among the NEVs sold in June, 64,218 units were DM plug-in hybrid cars (PHEVs), and 69,544 units were battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

BYD has announced that its focus shifted from full ICE (internal combustion engine) cars to BEVs and PHEVs. As of June, the carmaker has saved over 11 trillion kilograms of carbon emissions.

The NEV giant’s sales have presented strong momentum early this year, with sales reaching 106,042 units in April, up 313.2% year on year, among which were 105,475 units of passenger vehicles, representing an increase of 321.3% year on year.

Recently, BYD overtook Volkswagen AG in the ranking of the world’s most valuable automakers with a market value of US$127.32 billion, rising up to third place, according to companiesmarketcap.com.
