This summer, ice cream lovers in Shenzhen can have new flavors to try, as Shenzhen’s first Moutai Ice Cream flagship store opened Saturday at the MixC World shopping mall in Nanshan District.

Moutai Ice Cream is also sold in cones at its flagship shops.

The shop, jointly launched by Kweichow Moutai and Mengniu Dairy, sells baijiu-infused ice cream in four flavors: original milk, green plum, vanilla and tiramisu. They come in small-sized tubs or in cones and are infused with 1.6-2% Moutai baijiu (53% alcohol). Prepackaged ice cream in small tubs weighing 75-78g each is priced at 59-66 yuan each, while scooped ice-cream balls are 60g each and are priced 39-59 yuan per serving.

Ice cream desserts and cakes are also available at the flagship shop. Moutai said minors, pregnant women and people who are allergic to alcohol should not consume the ice cream and drivers should enjoy it with caution.

Moutai, the high-end spirits maker headquartered in Guizhou Province, produces the most expensive type of baijiu in China which is renowned for its incredibly strong taste. In May, when Moutai launched its ice cream line, its first product line outside of its portfolio of alcoholic beverages, it said it wanted to attract young consumers, or Generation Z, with enriched offerings.

Distilled from sorghum and rice, a batch of Moutai goes through eight rounds of subterranean fermentation over the course of a year, a process that gives the spirit a savory flavor.

Given Moutai spirit’s strong taste and hefty price, many people have been curious about how an ice cream flavored with the liquor might taste. Those who have already tried the ice cream describe it as having “a light Moutai flavor,” according to media reports.
