The Shekou coastal cultural and creative block is among the second batch of national nighttime culture and tourism consumption areas announced recently by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

A total of 123 projects across the country were selected as part of the second batch of national nighttime culture and tourism consumption areas. Among them, six are from Guangdong Province, and Shekou coastal cultural and creative block is the city’s only project included in the list.

In another development, Yantian District is upgrading its core tourism resources which include OCT East, according to Shenzhen Evening News.

OCT East aims to become a demonstration project for ecotourism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a cultural tourism brand with global influence and competitiveness.

After the renovation, OCT East will be transformed from an enclosed tourist spot to an open holiday resort. It will focus on four industries — ecology, health care services, culture and sports.

Specifically, OCT East will have new hotels with different levels and features, an arts center with mountain and sea views, and an adventure paradise.

Construction on the new facilities is expected to be initiated this year and completed in 2025, according to the report.

In addition, OCT East will build a transport hub to alleviate traffic pressures in nearby areas. The hub will also be connected to hiking trails in eastern Shenzhen to make the resort more accessible to tourists.
