Robotics firm UBTECH Robotics Corp. launched a whole set of smart health care solutions and unveiled five types of service robots used in smart health care scenarios in Shenzhen on Wednesday night.

The solutions and products are intended to bring new services to the health care industry through artificial intelligence (AI) technology, UBTECH said.

Meanwhile, the Shenzhen-based firm signed strategic cooperation agreements with China Merchants Guanyi Home, the elderly care service arm of China Merchants Shekou, Medical Care Service (MCS), Japan’s largest operator of dementia-care homes, and the China Academy of Transportation Sciences.

UBTECH is also seeking to establish a joint venture with MCS this month, the firm said.

Tan Huan, co-chief technology officer of UBTECH, said that with intelligent robots as the carriers and AI technology as the core, the solutions are expected to provide high-quality elderly care services through UBTECH’s intelligent health care cloud platform.

Zhou Jian, founder and CEO of UBTECH, said that the firm has been engaged in AI and intelligent robotics industry for 10 years and began to explore the elderly care sector in 2017.

China is expected to enter a period of severe population aging around 2035, when those 60 years old and above will account for more than 30% of the total population, according to a report released by the National Health Commission on Aug.1.

China’s elderly care market reached 8.8 trillion yuan (US$1.27 trillion) in 2021 and the figure is expected to hit 10.3 trillion yuan in 2022, data from third-party research institution iiMedia Research showed.
