An urban forest tourism zone will be built in Shenzhen and eight other cities in the Pearl River Delta region, according to the Guangdong Province forest tourism development plan (2021-2035) released by Guangdong’s forestry administration.

The Pearl River Delta urban forest tourism zone includes Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and some areas in Zhaoqing.

The urban forest tourism zone will focus on tourism products related to urban forest entertainment and sightseeing, forest experience, forest health and wellness, and nature education by making full use of the area’s sound industrial base as well as its fast transportation network.

Four forest tourism zones have been planned based on geographic locations and conditions of forest tourism resources.

In addition to the Pearl River Delta urban forest tourism zone, the other three areas are eastern Guangdong Chaoshan-style forest tourism zone, western Guangdong coastal wetland forest tourism zone and northern Guangdong mountain ecological forest tourism zone.

Shenzhen has set up a four-tier forest protection mechanism involving municipal and district governments, subdistrict offices and communities.
