The Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (HTCZ) is seeking support nationwide for six science and technology projects, with a subsidy of up to 20 million yuan (US$2.74 million) to be given to a single project, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

The six projects focus on major and key issues in scientific research fields such as microelectronics, big data and artificial intelligence, medical science and technology and new materials, according to HTCZ, the Shenzhen section of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone.

The projects are all collected from leading enterprises in relevant industries. Universities, research institutes, R&D enterprises and research teams are encouraged to pull together to solve problems.

The move aims to make breakthroughs in some key and core technical problems and accelerate the application of new technologies and products to help achieve sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels.

This March, HTCZ started a one-month program to learn about major technical needs from leading enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, widely soliciting common industrial problems and technical needs that these industries need to solve urgently.

The first batch of six projects was selected after the review of experts from various industries.
