The advanced manufacturing industry accounted for 67.6% of the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size in Shenzhen last year, becoming a new “calling card” for the city, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Shenzhen’s manufacturing industry is undergoing continuous and accelerated transformation and upgrading to move toward a high-end and intelligent development pattern. A number of specialized and sophisticated enterprises that produce new and unique products have sprouted out of the ground one after another. Statistics from an official display panel at the 24th China Hi-Tech Fair showed that there were 3,842 such enterprises in Shenzhen as of this October, 3,051 among which were manufacturing firms.

In the first 10 months of this year, the output of Shenzhen’s major high-tech products continued to grow rapidly. Among them, the production of new energy vehicles (NEVs), charging piles, 5G smartphones and civilian drones witnessed a surge of 212.7%, 124.4%, 35.4% and 31.4%, respectively.

BYD, as a leading company in China’s new energy vehicle industry, recently got its 3 millionth NEV off its production line, thus becoming the first Chinese brand to reach this milestone. “It took us 13 years from the first car to the first million, one year from the first to the second million and only half a year from the second to the third million,” Wang Chuanfu, chairman of BYD, said at a press conference marking the completion of the company’s 3 millionth NEV.

This August, BYD was shortlisted in the Fortune 500 list for the first time.

Shenzhen issued guidelines this June on developing strategic emerging industrial clusters and fostering future industries that will be the backbone of the city’s industrial and technological revolutions. Under the orientation document, Shenzhen will focus on developing 20 globally competitive strategic emerging industrial clusters and fostering eight future industries to gain an edge in these industries.

At present, many advanced manufacturing enterprises in Shenzhen are continuously increasing their investment to help promote the high-end, intelligent and green development of Shenzhen’s manufacturing industry.

“Our company has adequate orders and sufficient production capacity and our products are well-received in the global market,” said an executive from Shenzhen Absen Optoelectronic Co. Ltd. The company provided eight venues of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with LED stadium screens with a total area of nearly 2,000 square meters.

In addition, the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium and some of the grandstand seats and LED pole displays of the Qatar World Cup were also constructed or provided by Shenzhen-based companies, showcasing the city’s tech prowess and its role as an advanced global manufacturing hub.

SmartMore, a Qianhai-based startup company engaged in the application of new-generation AI (artificial intelligence) technology in the smart manufacturing and ultra high-definition video industries, is committed to the cultivation of industrial talents to promote the vigorous development of the city and the country’s intelligent manufacturing.

SmartMore has joined hands with all kinds of social institutions, enterprises and colleges in Shenzhen, including the city’s human resources and social security bureau, Foxconn Group and Shenzhen Polytechnic with the purpose of establishing a sound industrial talent training system in the city.

Shenzhen has always been taking the manufacturing industry as its foundation when planning for its future development and is treating the strategic emerging industries as the top priority in the development of its real economy, the Daily report said.
