Enjoy Bach's 'Cello Suites' by Chu Yibing

The “Cello Suites, BWV 1007–1012,” are suites for unaccompanied cello and are some of the most frequently performed solo compositions ever written for cello. They are some of the most recognizable and well-loved pieces of music and have been featured in concerts and commercials alike, and transcribed for a diverse array of instruments.

Chu Yibing

Chu studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the 1980s and was the principal cellist of Switzerland’s Basel Symphony Orchestra and guest principal cellist of the prestigious Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has won prizes in an international cello competition in Geneva.

He was invited by his German friends to become one of the six members of the Cologne Philharmonic Cellists and subsequently gave many performances all over Germany. He has also conducted the Halle, Britain’s longest-established symphony orchestra, Munich Symphony Orchestra, Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra and Berlin Symphony Orchestra.

Chu is a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and has performed scores for movies and TV series. He has also contributed to spreading ensemble music all over China. His ensemble China Philharmonic Cellists, made up of 12 cellists, gives concerts all over the country.
