Shenzhen moved up one place to rank second in the country in terms of logistics competitiveness, following Shanghai, according to a report on Chinese cities’ logistics competitiveness this year, as reported by Shenzhen Economic Daily yesterday.

At present, there are over 80,000 logistics enterprises in the city including 10 listed companies and more than 4,000 supply chain service enterprises, according to the report.

The added value of the city’s logistics industry reached 308.4 billion yuan (US$44.19 billion) last year, accounting for about 10% of the GDP.

Shenzhen’s expressways now cover 605 kilometers in mileage, conveniently accessible to ports, the city’s airport and major industrial parks.

Additionally, around 93% of the city’s logistics and supply chain service enterprises took the initiative to use new technologies to improve their transport efficiency and core competitiveness.

Zheng Yanling, secretary-general of Shenzhen Logistics and Supply Chain Management Association, observed that a new development model is an important path to promote efficiency and reduce costs for logistics companies.

Shenzhen has specified in its comprehensive transportation 14th Five-Year plan (2021-2025) to promote the innovation and development of logistics business models. The city will promote the integration and innovative development of its logistics and manufacturing industries, encourage logistics enterprises to coordinate with high-end manufacturing enterprises in fields such as electronic information and biomedicine, and to build high-quality cold chain logistics service systems.
