Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport has seen robust recovery with its passenger turnover in January ranking second among Chinese airports, up by 86.5% year on year, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The passenger flow hit a high with 156,000 passenger trips one day in January. Shenzhen airport has resumed flights to over 130 destinations around the country, reaching the same level in 2019.

The airport can now safeguard up to 1,100 departing and arriving flights per day and has served 29,000 flights, up 25% year on year, reaching 90% of those in 2019.

“I feel the quick pace at Shenzhen airport. The familiar atmosphere has returned in Shenzhen,” a passenger told the Daily.

Shenzhen Metro has also seen an increasing trend in passenger flow since the first working day of the Year of the Rabbit.

It recorded 8.0472 million passenger trips Feb. 10, hitting a second record high, and saw over 7 million passenger trips in five consecutive days from Feb. 6 to Feb. 10.

A staffer from Shenzhen Metro Group explained that the increasing passenger flow is due to the full resumption of cross-border travel, as well as people’s enthusiasm in traveling and returning to work from their hometowns.

As for cross-border travel, the number of ferries operating from Shenzhen to Hong Kong and Macao has increased from 38 per day to 54 since Jan. 8 when Shekou Port Checkpoint resumed its ferry services.

In the first month after its resumption, the checkpoint saw a total of 182,000 outbound and inbound traveler trips, over 6,000 trips a day.

When cross-border travel fully resumed Feb. 6, customs recorded 280,000 traveler trips traveling between the mainland and Hong Kong that day. Luohu (Lo Wu) Checkpoint recorded 65,000 trips, while Futian (Lok Ma Chau) Checkpoint saw 54,000 trips.
