Foreign experts intending to work on a long-term basis in China are only permitted to bring into the country luggage and any other articles for personal use - and within reasonable quantities.
Foreign experts who carry gold, silver - or products made of gold or silver - should declare them to China Customs, and Customs officers are likely to approve reasonable quantities for private use.
Z (Work) Visa is only issued to foreign experts who intend to work in the P.R. China for a period of time such as one year.
Foreign experts holding valid passports or other identification documents are allowed to stay in the P.R. China - and also to leave the country. The experts should make sure they have made adequate preparations before the end of their period of employment.
According to the Customs Law of the People’s Republic of China, foreign experts are not allowed to carry the following objects when they enter the P. R. China:

Where the permanent office of a foreign media organization intends to terminate its operation in China, it shall notify the Information Department of its intention 30 days prior to the termination and, within 7 working days from the date of the termination,
Before its resident journalist leaving his post, the permanent office of the foreign media organization should notify the IPC or local FAOs of the departure, have his Press Card (R) cancelled and ensure him to have paid all taxes, rents and other due expenses.
