Yanshan Community

Yanshan Community is one of the places in Shenzhen whose demographic composition includes a large number of expats. In fact, 60 percent of expats who live in Nanshan District live in the community. Some 2,700 expats from 47 countries and regions live here, comprising 10 percent of the total population. Nearly 200 are returned overseas Chinese with their families and residents of Hong Kong and Macao. Japanese make the biggest number among expats in the community, followed by Americans, South Koreans, Canadians, Australians, Indians, Germans, French people and Britons. With a lovely environment surrounded by sea and mountains, the community has international schools and such amenities as shops and recreational facilities. English is widely used.

To make life even more convenient for expats, the Merchants Subdistrict has set up Shenzhen’s first Expat Service Center in the community, where community workers and police staff offer passport registration and other services including Chinese language teaching. They also arrange for Chinese handicraft workshops, fun sports meet, legal lectures and psychological counseling.
