A CAB driver who suffered from a sudden heart attack and lost control of his car on Shennan Boulevard on Tuesday was intercepted by police, who took him to a hospital.
Unfortunately, the driver died in the hospital that evening.
The incident happened on the Zhuzilin section of Shennan Boulevard at 10:10 a.m.
A video provided by police showed the cab, which was carrying two passengers, suddenly moving backward down the slope of the road while the vehicles behind it had to change lanes to avoid a collision. At that time, a van with a temporary license plate, later confirmed to be a police vehicle, moved forward and intercepted the cab from moving back any farther.
“If the cab driver were moving the cab backward, the tail lights would have been on, but the lights of the cab weren’t on, indicating that the cab had lost control,” said Wu Baojie, a police officer with Tian’an Police Station, who got out of the van to offer help. Wu and two other officers, Lin Qingming and Wang Song, were on their way to handle police business.
They helped the two female passengers out of the cab and called an ambulance when they saw that the driver had lost consciousness.
“The driver was foaming at the mouth and his hands were laying weakly at his sides. Also, the hand brake was disengaged,” said Wu.
The officers turned off the engine and pulled up the hand brake. The medical employees who later arrived at the scene performed first aid on the driver before taking him to the hospital.
The two passengers were visiting Shenzhen. They were on the way to OCT Loft when the incident occurred. (Han Ximin)
