Wong Yim-ping

For Wong Yim-ping, working with and providing services for Shenzhen families with Hong Kong-born children who are attending Hong Kong schools has been her motivation to commute between the two cities on a daily basis for an entire decade.

Wong is the director of development at the Luohu Cross-boundary Students Service Center. She has worked with hundreds of families and endeavored to create programs to help these families solve their problems.

“It’s not easy for a family, whether only one parent is a Hong Kong resident or both have a Hong Kong residency permit, to support their children crossing the border to go to schools every day,” Wang said.

“As registered social workers in Hong Kong, we can help these families in many ways such as organizing information sessions, opening help groups and sometimes visiting the families,” said Wong.

After working in the city for 10 years, Wong notices that Shenzhen has become more attractive to her, not only because of the convenient infrastructure and public transportation, but also the increasing care work for people in need.

“I can see that there are more projects caring for people in Shenzhen over the past decade and I would be happy if both cities could further work together to gain more of a mutual understanding with each other,” said Wong.
