Like an urban recluse, this Chinese pub is one of the oldest in Shenzhen. From its little “dajiuchu” (lit. place to buy wine) banner to the signature flower wines and rice wines served in pottery decanters and sipped from mini-cups, the place oozes retro vibes.

Mixy Bar is hidden above a market, and even its entrance is semi-hidden. But just look for the light box and you won't be far off. Its menu changes constantly according to the owner's creative fancies, and seasonal fruit and herbs often collide to spark interesting flavors.

A Shekou institution since 2005, the ever-popular Terrace feels like a warm and welcoming local pub, cooks up deliciously zingy Thai food, and pulls in the party crowd later on when the house band plug in their instruments and crank it up (every night from 10 p.m.).

A magnet for expats, the George and Dragon plays on the classic British pub vibe with a broad selection of draft beers to wash down fish and chips, Commonwealth folk especially will not miss any traditional festivals here.
