Shenzhen People’s Hospital, formerly known as Bao’an County Hospital, was first built in 1946 and changed to this name in 1979 with the establishment of Shenzhen Economic Zone. In 1994 it was graded as the first top-level (“Grade A Class Three”) hospital in Shenzhen. In 1996 it was ratified as the Second Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University Medical School by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and upgraded as Jinan University Second Clinical Medical College in 2005. With the growth of the Economic Zone, Shenzhen People’s Hospital has developed into a modern comprehensive hospital with advanced medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and health care.
The hospital covers an area of 138,200 square meters and a floor area of 213,000 square meters with 2100 authorized patient beds and 2400 open beds. In 2013 the patients discharged from the hospital amounts to 80,400 while outpatient visits amounts to more than 3000,000. Now the hospital has two outpatient departments, one inpatient department and one branch hospital (Shenzhen People’s Hospital Longhua Branch).
The hospital has 16 provincial key disciplines as follows: Department of Respiratory Medicine, Department of Nephrology, Department of Gastroenterology, Department of Infectious Diseases, Department of Endocrinology, Department of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Stomatology, Anesthetic Department, Department of Gynaecology, Obstetric Department, Neonatal Department, Emergency Department, Department of Pathology, Laboratory Department, Clinical Nursing Department and Medical Imaging Department which includes CT, Radiation, Ultrasonic, Interventional Therapy and Nuclear Medicine. It also enjoys 7 advantage medicine key disciplines, 14 municipal key disciplines, 4 municipal key medical laboratories. In 2013 the Minimally Invasive Treatment Centre was ratified as Asia Cryotherapy Treatment Training Base in charge of training the specialists in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and the south areas in China. Its advanced medical technology has attracted a lot of patients from Hong Kong, Macau and the areas around Shenzhen and has drawn wide attentions of the media from both home and abroad.
The hospital has established long term cooperation and exchange platform with different hospitals and universities around the world such as the German Bremen Central Hospital, University of Western Ontario, Houston Methodist Hospital and Chonnam National University Hospital.
