Super Typhoon Ragasa continued to approach Shenzhen early Wednesday, bringing intensifying winds and heavy rain as authorities urged residents to remain on high alert.

Authorities in Shenzhen ordered the closure of multiple tunnels and highways Tuesday evening as Super Typhoon Ragasa approached the region, prompting the city’s highest-level emergency response.

All public transportation in Shenzhen will be suspended in phases starting from 8 p.m. today, according to the Shenzhen Emergency Mobilization Order for Typhoon and Flood Prevention issued earlier today.

Shenzhen will suspend all metro services earlier than usual today and has activated emergency response measures as Typhoon Ragasa nears the coast, bringing risks of destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and coastal flooding.

Shenzhen will suspend operations at workplaces, business venues, markets in phases starting from 2 p.m. today as Super Typhoon Ragasa is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rain between Tuesday night and Wednesday.
