Shenzhen music lovers will have a chance to enjoy Mozart's "The Magic Flute" presented by Lyric Opera of Melbourne from Australia at the Shenzhen Bay Grassland Concert, an annual free outdoor classical music festival.

Organized by the Shenzhen Oriental Charm Culture Transmitting Co. Ltd. and sponsored by Yinger Fashion Group and Qianhai Finance Center, this year's two-day event scheduled Nov. 12-13 will also invite Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO) to perform classical music. According to Li Yuanwei, the chairman of Oriental Charm, the Shenzhen Bay Grassland Concert is for music lovers who cannot afford to enjoy classical music in concert halls.

"The Magic Flute" is an opera in two acts which premiered in 1791 in Vienna, just two months before Mozart's death. Filled with the composer's glorious music, "The Magic Flute" is one of the greatest and most popular operas ever written. It explores the search for true love and wisdom as the royal prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno must overcome a series of trials in order to rescue Pamina from the grasp of the manipulative Queen of the Night.

In its fouth year, the Shenzhen Bay Grassland Concert has featured the Berlin Philharmonic and the Opera Australia in the past. Last autumn, the Orchestre National de Lyon from France presented compositions from Bizet's "Carmen" at the grassland concert, attracting 100,000 audience members to the Shenzhen Bay Park.

"Western opera is the main feature of Shenzhen Bay Grassland Concert because it is a comprehensive performance art. In 2014, we performed compositions from "The Lady of the Camellias" and in 2015 we had pieces from "Carmen." This year, we will present the whole version of "The Magic Flute," with performers in full costumes and props. The stage has been expanded to 10x50 meters with huge LED screens to show 3-D setting," said Li.

On Nov. 13, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra will collaborate with Chinese tenors Wei Song, Li Yuanwei and soprano You Hongfei to present popular classical pieces, such as "Let's Drink From the Joyful Cups" and "O Sole Mio." Young Chinese violinist Chen Xi will present "Butterfly Lovers."

Viewers can claim free tickets through the organizer's WeChat: OutdoorMusic on Oct. 26. Meanwhile, the organizer is also seeking volunteers aged between 18 and 35 to work at the concerts.
