"Appropriation and Transformation" exhibition features paintings by 11 Chinese masters who had been greatly influenced by their studies in Japan in 1905-1937.

The 11 masters are Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng, Chen Shuren, Guan Liang, Zhu Qizhan, Chen Zhifo, Ding Yanyong, Feng Zikai, Fang Rending, Li Xiongcai and Fu Baoshi. During their time in Japan, they were exposed to the synthesis of Western and Nihonga (traditional Japanese style) approaches in the contemporary Japanese art world.
