Shekou Sea World Light Festival| Until Feb. 15

Date:2016-12-26    Share:

Artistic light installations are light up around Minghua ship. The Fourth Sea World International Light Festival showcases lights designed by Dutch, Chinese, German and Canadian artists, such as Daniel Iregui, Xu Zhengyue, Tropisme, Antonin Fourneau and Stichting Barstow.

Control No Control

Iregui’s “Control No Control” is an interactive LED sculpture that invites the audience to use their hands and body to act on its sound and graphics. The full cycle of audio-graphical compositions goes through five states, each exploring a geometric pattern.

Iregui was born in Bogota, Colombia, and is based in Montreal, Canada. He is the founder of the collective Iregular, an interactive content creation practice in Montreal, and has worked in the field of interaction design for almost 10 years. Working at the intersection of art and programing, Iregui creates artistic interactive experiences on devices and in public spaces where design is as important as technology. He is very intrigued by the infinite and random combinations that are produced when a system is opened to the public for them to transform it.

Tropisme’s “Sneaky Serpents” is an interactive underwater light installation first shown at the 2014-2015 edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. Like frogs in a pond, these light snakes start to come out of their hiding places as soon as the first snake dares to appear. They produce a slight hissing sound. Then, when frightened by a sudden sound, like clapping hands of the visitors, they will disappear quickly back to their dens. Until, after a while, one dares to emerge again.

Water Light Graffiti

Conceived by French Digitalarti Artlab residence designer Fourneau, “Water Light Graffiti” utilizes a giant matrix of LEDs embedded in a moisture-sensitive panel that when exposed to water causes the lights inside to instantly illuminate. The fun thing is that almost anything becomes a temporary paintbrush: a squirt gun, a paintbrush or even a wet hand.
