“I think devoting to the public welfare is the most important thing in my life, because it enables me to gain the sense of achievement. Helping others or calling for more people to join the volunteer team makes me feel happy and satisfied”, said Huang Qinli, an experienced volunteer in Shenzhen.

Huang has been contributing to the city for over 2 decades. He had returned large sums of money to owners for twice, established charity fund to help the poor and set up care centers for juveniles. He regularly organized benevolent families to carry out caring activities. He was awarded the Fourth Guangdong Provincial Moral Model Nomination and the Fifth National Model Nomination.

“When I first came to Shenzhen, I saw volunteers wearing red vests and helping others on the road. I was eager to become one of them since then”, said Huang and he really did so.

In 1993, he returned 280,000 Hong Kong dollars to the owner when he worked in a hotel of Shenzhen. In 2010, when he operated his own Jungle Western Restaurant, he again picked up 220,000 yuan and returned the sum to its owner.

In order to help more people, he established the Shenzhen 1+2 Youth Growth and Caring Center in 2013 and mobilized people and families around him to join the team. The center aims to help the disabled, sick and left behind children all over the country.

Huang said, “At present, there are nearly 30 thousand volunteers in the Caring Center and the center had provided goods and materials amount to over 2 million yuan to those people in need.”

During the caring actions, many families provided one-to-one help to the left behind and poor children. Huang himself also adopted 4 orphans and funded over 30 impoverished children, which costs him over 60,000 yuan in total.

Since he began to run the Jungle Western Restaurant, he has been helping the impoverished staff working in his restaurant. In order to help them, he established the Jungle Love Fund in 1999 and continuously allocated 2% of the monthly revenue to the fund.

What’s more, at the beginning of 2015, Huang set up the Book Bar of Integrity in every branch of his restaurants. The bars provide free books to citizens and rely on citizen’s credibility and integrity to return the books. The project has been awarded as one of the best beneficial programs for citizens in the thirteenth Shenzhen Care Action.

Huang insists on serving the city that in the last year, he also set up a volunteer team named “Qinli volunteer team”. Currently, there are more than 300 members joining the team and regularly carry out public welfare activities like blood donation and relieving the traffic congestion.
