American pianist Steven Lin will present Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 31, No. 3,” “Piano Sonata in C Major, Op. 53, No. 21,” Chopin’s “Nocturne in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 1,” “Mazurka in A Minor, Op. 17, No. 4” and “Mazurka in C-sharp Minor, Op. 50, No. 3,” and Liszt’s “Réminiscences de Don Juan, S. 418.”

A rising star in classical music, Lin was applauded by The New York Times for playing that was “immaculately voiced and enhanced by admirable subtleties of shading and dynamics.” Washington Post also remarked that “Lin is a muscular poet of the keyboard. He coaxes a wide range of expression out of his instrument with power and precision in almost equal measure. His playing offers sparkling virtuosity; unaffected, highly musical phrasing; and thoughtful interpretations blessedly free of mannerism.”

His artistry was clear from an early age when he was accepted by The Juilliard School on a full scholarship to study with Yoheved Kaplinsky at the age of 10, which in turn led to his debut with the New York Philharmonic in Avery Fisher Hall when he was 13. Lin recently completed the prestigious performance diploma program at the Curtis Institute of Music, under the guidance of Robert McDonald.

The pianist’s broad musical interests allow him to move with ease between concertos, recitals and chamber music, enjoying appearances worldwide at important venues.

In 2012, Lin took first place at the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and third place both at the William Kapell and the Hilton Head International Piano Competitions. That same year, he was also a semifinalist at the Leeds competition in England. In 2013, he won a juror’s award at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
