Classical music night with SSO| April 21

Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will collaborate with violinist Lyu Siqing to present Shostakovich’s “Violin Concerto No. 1” and “Symphony No. 15.” SSO’s artistic director Lin Daye will wield the baton.

Lyu was selected by Yehudi Menuhin to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, England when Lyu was 11. After returning to China in 1985, he appeared as a member of several major Chinese orchestras, and made guest appearances on multiple Chinese television programs. In 1987, he won the first prize of the Paganini Competition; and in 1999, he was the winner of the Web Concert Hall International Competition. He plays the Guarneri del Gesu “Wieniawski” on loan from the Stradivari Society.

 

Lin Daye

 

Conductor Lin is also serving at a teaching post at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He was a winner of the first prize at the sixth Sir Georg Solti International Conductors Competition in Frankfurt in 2012. Young but experienced, Lin has collaborated with many prestigious orchestras such as China Philharmonic Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and leading soloists from home and abroad, including Sarah Chang, Gary Graffman and Wang Jian. Playing the piano before taking up his baton, Lin was a student of conductor Christian Ehwald at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.
