Amiina

Amiina is an Icelandic band that makes music with a great number of instruments. It contains elements of minimalistic style, contemporary classical, ambient, and electronic loops. In their performances each member will play many instruments, sometimes moving across the stage, going from one instrument to another mid-song.

Amiina’s debut album, “Kurr” (2007), was performed on a disparate jumble of instruments — musical saws, kalimbas, music boxes and seemingly anything that could be plucked, bowed or beaten on — resulting in a work that ebbed and flowed “in a strange, powerful place between sophistication and innocence.” Building further on this with their album “Puzzle,” Amiina started to feature heavier use of electronics.

With their latest album “Fantomas,” Amiina shows a darker side, creating an amazing soundtrack for the French silent film from 1913. The score was originally commissioned by Yann Tiersen, who curated the event, for a performance in Theatre du Chatelet in Paris in 2013 for the anniversary of the “Fantomas” films.

Wild Children

Wild Children is a Chinese band founded by the duo Zhang Quan and Xiao Suo in 1995 in Hangzhou. With a few lineup changes, the band now has five members and it is strongly influenced by traditional music and the culture of the region up-stream of the Yellow River. Based on melody loops and irregular rhythms, the broad and rich multi-voice chorus of Wild Children will easily remind listeners of the songs of their homeland.

Sun of Morning

Sun of Morning is a Chinese band that does not focus on one genre of music. At the very beginning, the band liked to make music that was unlike mainstream pop music. They tried many different styles of rearrangements and reproductions or mixing metal drum beats. In 2009, they released their first EP “Sun of Morning,” mixing both Eastern and Western musical elements into their compositions. In 2014, they were invited to tour the United States, Hong Kong, Hangzhou and Guangzhou. At the end of 2015, they were invited to perform at Music Matters in Singapore and the Xihu Music Festival. At the end of 2016, they released their latest EP, “The Lost Whisper From the Kids,” and were invited to Shenzhen Midi Music Festival.

Ezza

Trio Ezza brings tuareg music off of the conventional path by mixing rock, blues, African pulse, rhythmic trances and relentless grooves. Ezza’s desert blues-rock, with its three-piece dynamic, soul-stirring melodies and rebellion-fuelled rhythms, produces a more contemporary sound than what was previously associated with Saharan music.
