Do you know how cow uses its four stomach chambers to digest food effectively? Can you explain why snails and slugs are both male and female? Do you want to experience the hard work of dung collection like a dung beetle? Want to learn how to prevent insect stings? Why not visit Hong Kong Science Museum and take a look at the world of fascinating gross animals?
This summer, Hong Kong Science Museum arranges “Animal Grossology” exhibition that introduces strange creatures such as those born with a slimy surface, a ruminant's digestive system, a blood-sucking habit and dung-eating behavior. There you can investigate all the gross creatures from the stinky and slimy to the crusty and goopy! The exhibition features 16 exhibit modules, which enables visitors to learn the weird behavior and unique habits of gross animals and pay more attention to the importance of biodiversity.
The “Animal Grossology” exhibition is developed based on Sylvia Branzei’s best-selling “Animal Grossology” children book written on the themes of uncanny and disgusting animal physiology. It is the first time to introduce the exhibition to Asia after it was held in America with growing popularity.
“Children today lack field experiment and exploration. So the purpose of the exhibition is to encourage them to respect different creatures by smelling, observing and touching.” said Chen Shuwen, the curator of Hong Kong Science Museum, who expects 200,000 visitors to come.
Hong Kong Science Museum occupies a permanent exhibition area of 6,500 square meters and houses over 500 exhibits, including an Energy Machine, the largest of its kind in the world. It also regularly presents temporary exhibitions on a wide variety of topics related to science and modern technology. For more information, please call 2732 3232 or visit http://hk.science.museum
