Free classic music concerts for June
Shenzhen Concert Hall will offer a series of free concerts this month, including an outdoor concert June 12 on an islet on the lake of Honghu Park amid the sunset and the fragrance of lotus flowers.
Romantic sensations in G major
CONDUCTED by Charles Olivieri-Munroe, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) will perform this Friday evening Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 2, Op.44” and Dvořák’s “Symphony No. 8, Op. 88,” both written in G major. Chinese-born Canadian pianist Cai Sheng will be the soloist.

Original production dazzles at China Opera Festival
An effort to tell an original Shenzhen story in the form of Western opera won accolades at the recently concluded Fifth China Opera Festival. The festival, running between May 9 and last Wednesday in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province, presented 24 Chinese operas with 48 performances, including 19 new, original operatic productions.

1,810 couples tie the knot on '520'
Again, it was the special day for lovebirds to flock to the marriage registries to exchange their vows. A total of 1,810 couples tied the knot in Shenzhen on Saturday, or May 20, with the number 520 sounding like “I love you” in Mandarin.

Romantic concert portrays Chanel's multifaceted life
Shenzhener's were immersed in a romantic and relaxing concert Saturday night (May 20), a special Chinese occasion as “520” is a homophone of “I love you” in Chinese. The concert, titled “The Playlist of Fashion Queen,” featured two piano pieces, 15 French art songs and chansons, a German song and two encore songs performed by Chinese mezzo-soprano Li Ying and Guangdong-based Belgian pianist Renaat Beheydt at the Shenzhen Concert Hall. Intertwining music and stories, the concert took the audience on a journey reviewing French fashion icon Coco Chanel’s life and the music in her time.
Two SZ-made films win Huabiao Film Awards
Two films involving Shenzhen Media Group in the production, “A Man of the People” and “Nice View,” won the Excellent Feature Film Award of the 19th Huabiao Film Awards along with eight other films including “The Battle at Lake Changjin.”
