As Spring Festival draws near, the streets in the city are alive with the vibrant sights and sounds of the season.

A highlight of the city’s New Year celebrations, the highly anticipated 2025 Shenzhen Spring Festival Flower Fair opens today, offering a perfect opportunity for residents to shop for New Year goods.

​In celebration of the approaching Chinese Lunar New Year, citizens begin to select Spring Festival couplets or chunlian, which are an essential part of Spring Festival’s decorations and are believed to bring blessings and good fortune to the household.

On the evening of Jan. 16, “My City, My Song-Folk Song Festival (Season 2)” was held at NUBOND AIR, Houhai Harbour, Nanshan. Sixteen folk musicians from Xi'an, Shenzhen, Shantou and other cities presented the ballads at the folk music concert. The finale of the “Folk Song Festival” will be presented Jan. 18 at Futian Sports Park and free tickets will be offered.

In celebration of the approaching Year of the Snake, shopping malls across the city are decorated with an array of new year ornaments.

Train G834, heading for Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province in Northwest China, departed from Shenzhen North Station at 6:08 a.m. today, marking the start of the city's 40-day Spring Festival travel season.

Spring Festival couplets, or chunlian, are traditional poetic verses written on red paper strips and displayed on front doors of homes during the Chinese New Year. They symbolize family unity, positive aspirations, and prosperity.

The 2025 Ping An Finance Center Vertical Marathon took place in the 599-meter-tall Ping An Finance Center, the world’s tallest office building, attracting 1,000 top runners from around the globe.
