Shenzhen has more than 6,000 design firms with 100,000 employees.
Brisk foreign trade and ever-adjusting industrial structures have not only brought a boom in packaging, advertising, corporate identity systems, branding, printing and media, but also made Shenzhen the cradle for China's modern graphic design. Shenzhen now has nearly 1,000 graphic design firms with an annual output of some 600 million yuan (US$83.86 million). The output of the city's graphic design industry, which includes related advertising, printing and packaging output, has increased by an average 54.8 percent a year in recent years. Output reached 11 billion yuan (US$1.54 billion) in 2006.
